Natural Weed Killers

Natural Weed KillersIf you are the type who hates chemicals and toxic materials because they are bad for the environment, then natural weed killers are the best solutions for you in terms of getting rid of the weeds in your lawn. There are home substances that you can make yourself which are as effective and safer than commercial ones. They can be made by spending very minimal or no cost at all since you already have them at home. The following are ingredients that you can try to make your own natural weed killers.

Vinegar has acetic acid in its contents which make it an effective solution for weed killer. Be careful though when applying this as its non-selective, meaning it will kill anything it touches. It is therefore not advisable to use it in your lawn as it might end up killing your grass as well. Apply it on your patios, walkways or in any areas that are farther from your plants.

Boiling water is another natural solution that is effective for getting rid of the weeds. Applying it once a day up to three days can make the weeds wilt up and die. Once you see that the weed is dead, you can pull it up while it’s wet so you can dig it with its entire root.

Rock salt, when sprayed on the weeds, can cause it to die as well. However, you should note that the areas you applied it on might be not suitable for planting new plants anymore in the future. So apply it on areas only where you don’t intend to use such as the driveway or sidewalk cracks.

Rubbing alcohol when mixing a teaspoon with about a liter of water can also get rid of weeds in your garden. Like vinegar, it is also non-selective so be careful when spraying it so as not to harm other plants.

Lemon juice is another solution that can work. It is often combined with vinegar for it to be more effective.

Dish detergent is another natural weed killer that you probably already have at home. It can be mixed with either vinegar or water to make it an effective solution to getting rid of the weeds.

These natural weed killers may already be available in your own pantry or refrigerator, you never know how effective and powerful weed killers they can be unless you try. So before resorting to the chemical ones, use any of these natural solutions to get rid of the weeds in your garden as they are cheaper, safer and environment-friendly.
